An Introduction
Hello, readers of this blog. My name is Samantha Leal and I'm a vocal music and pre-medical science major at Wright State. Yes, my brain is dying a little (read: a lot). Nevertheless, I still love both subjects dearly. I thought I might provide a description of myself since due to the pandemic, many of you will most likely never see my face. I stand at 4'10" with tan skin, black wavy hair, brown eyes, and thick glasses due to being pretty blind. The rest of my features are due to my Filipino genetics. Also, the Philippines is in Asia so I am technically Asian. I've had to explain this before because I often refer to myself as "Asian" and that confuses people who proceed to ask, "I thought you were Filipino?".
If you haven't already noticed, I tend to ramble quite a bit. I'll strive not to on this blog. Oh yeah, this blog. This blog was created primarily for my Honors class on Surviving the Apocalypse. I must say, I knew people were into apocalypse survival before, I just wasn't aware I could get college credit for it! On this blog I'll be discussing themes and subjects present in multiple works of dystopian/utopian/apocalypse-related fiction, and how they are relevant to today's world. Nothing like talking about how humanity is our salvation and our doom, right? If Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were still alive I bet they'd love being in this class.
Anyways. I'm very excited for this blog for a few reasons. 1) I love analyzing works of art and fiction. I've been obsessed with many books, movies, music, and TV shows since the age of 11. I have entire scenes, musicals, and quotes memorized for eternity. I think it's amazing how a person/people can create entire worlds in their heads, create deeply human characters, and present their perspectives on real-world topics that resonate with audiences. 2) Learning new things is Very Cool. Expanding upon a subject I never would have thought about before always interests me because it opens the door to new perspectives. If we're all striving to understand one another as humans, it's important we educate ourselves so we can empathize. 3) The class is called Surviving the Apocalypse. The course itself is intriguing not only for me, but for many. We all want to know if, when, and how our world could end, whatever each individual's definition of "world" is. More importantly, we want to know how we can survive.
So, that's my introduction to this blog. Sorry it's lengthy, but hopefully it wasn't dull.
"Remember: reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold, bye!"
